(ATLANTA) September 13, 2005 - PEARL Protected, creator of the revolutionary PEARL (Permanent Escape And Rescue Ladder) home safety device, today announced that James McMullen will join the executive management team as chief safety officer. In his role, McMullen will be primarily responsible for helping educate builders and consumers on fire and home protection as an industry expert and company spokesperson. PEARL, which can be installed in the wall below windows in second and third-story bedrooms, is a permanent, easy-to-use emergency escape and rescue device for the home.

McMullen was the California State Fire Marshal from 1985 to 1992 and served his community as a local fire chief and fire marshal. Currently, he is active as the Uniform Fire Code Coordinator and is Chair of the NFPA Presidential Advisory Committee. He is also an instructor in fire protection and hazardous materials for the University of California, Davis.
