PJ Homes First Texas Builder to Include Permanent Fire Escape Ladder as a Standard Feature in New Homes

Builder prepares homeowners for escape emergencies with
standard installation of the PEARL

Permanent Escape And Rescue Ladder

(ATLANTA) October 10, 2006 – PEARL Protected®, creators of the patented Permanent Escape And Rescue Ladder (PEARL®) for two- and three-story homes, today announced that PJ Homes will be the first builder in Texas to offer PEARL as a standard feature in all upstairs bedrooms of new two- and three-story homes. PEARL will be included in two PJ Homes subdivisions, Lookout at Bushy Creek in the Austin metropolitan area and Windy Park Village in nearby Round Rock.

PJ Homes joins a growing list of builders nationwide that are offering this innovative home safety device as a standard feature in upstairs bedrooms. Joe Houston, founder and president of PJ Homes, decided to standardize PEARL in these subdivisions as part of his build-on-your-lot program in an effort to enhance homeowner safety and to provide a unique feature not currently available with other local builders.

“It just makes perfect sense to offer PEARL in all of our upstairs bedrooms – especially because children are most likely to sleep upstairs,” said Houston. “It really is like an air bag for the home. You don’t ever want to be in a predicament where you need to use it, but you will be glad you have it there in the event of an emergency.”

Homeowners in second- and third-story bedrooms usually have just one means of escape in the event of a residential fire – down the staircase and out of the house. Unfortunately, smoke often blocks access to this primary exit, which can trap homeowners in their rooms often resulting in death or injury caused by smoke inhalation or jumping to safety. Because PEARL is built into the interior wall space below upstairs windows, PEARL Protected’s patented solution closes the gap in residential fire safety by offering an “always there” means of escape.

“Builders like PJ Homes are doing more than just offering a feature to homeowners, they are also helping to protect families, save lives and give peace of mind to their customers,” said David Duley, CEO of PEARL Protected. “By offering a breakthrough safety solution like PEARL, builders have a unique opportunity to differentiate themselves from the competition while increasing homeowners’ safety.”

With more than 25 years of experience in building production and custom-built homes in large markets like Houston, Dallas and New York, Houston plans to retrofit his own home with at least four PEARL units. “My six-year-old son sleeps upstairs in our home and including PEARL makes perfect sense for my family, too,” he said.

Based in Austin, PJ Homes specializes in first time, move-up production and custom-built homes with personalized floor plans and elegant upgrade options. The Lookout at Bushy Creek subdivision in the Austin metropolitan area currently has new homes under construction. Windy Park Village in Round Rock will open in the first quarter of 2007.
