Ryland Homes Las Vegas First National Builder to Install
PEARL Fire Safety Ladder in Two and Three-Story Homes

(ATLANTA) October 10, 2006 – PEARL Protected®, creators of the patented Permanent Escape And Rescue Ladder (PEARL®) for two- and three-story homes, today announced that Ryland Homes Las Vegas will be the first national builder in the U.S. to install the PEARL fire escape ladder as a standard feature in new construction. As a Fortune 500 company and one of the Top 10 largest builders in the country, Ryland Homes will install one PEARL ladder in all new two and three-story homes built in its newest Las Vegas community, Travata at West Park.

This is a landmark decision in the homebuilding industry and is well-timed for the observance of National Fire Prevention Week (October 8-14, 2006). Never before has a Top 10 homebuilder provided a permanent fire escape solution to homeowners. In the past, it has been the homeowner’s responsibility to purchase or employ a fire escape solution, like a portable fire escape ladder. Unfortunately, most homeowners fail to take this step, resulting in more than 3,000 deaths and 13,000 injuries each year (National Fire Protection Association).

The award-winning fire escape ladder will launch as a pilot program in Ryland Homes’ newest Las Vegas community, Travata at West Park. This community features spacious two and three-story homes ranging from 2,071 to 2,670 square feet and priced from the mid-$400,000’s. Following the success of this pilot program, Ryland Homes Las Vegas will consider offering the PEARL ladder as a standard feature in all new two and three-story homes in the area.

“Safety shouldn’t be an option for anyone, least of all Ryland Homes’ customers. We’re in the business of providing the best to our homeowners and that extends beyond the typical luxury upgrades. We want our customers to know that their home is built with comfort and safety in mind,” said Dana Rogers, vice president of sales and marketing, Ryland Homes Las Vegas.

While most homeowners take preventative measures for the detection and suppression of fire, very few have a safe means of escape from every upstairs room in the event that the primary exit is blocked by smoke or flames. PEARL is a revolutionary emergency escape solution that closes this deadly gap in residential fire safety. Because PEARL is seamlessly built into the interior wall space below second and third-story windows, PEARL provides an “always there” means of escape – like an air bag for the home™.

“We can’t think of a better way to kick off National Fire Prevention Week than to announce that one of the country’s largest and most successful homebuilders is making residential fire safety a priority. Not only will this approach inevitably save lives, it shows how homeowners and builders can work together to reduce the thousands of deaths and injuries caused by home fires every year,” said David Duley, CEO of PEARL Protected.
