Great American Fire Escape Teaches Sacramento Students How to Create Home Fire Escape Plan

Local fire expert partners with KB Home and PEARL Protected to teach students the importance of having a fire escape. Sacramento’s elementary school students will join other students nationwide as they take part in the Great American Fire Escape. Students at Orchard Elementary will attend a fire safety seminar led by retired California State Fire Marshal James McMullen that will teach children how to create and practice a home fire escape plan.

Great American Fire Drill, Pioneering Homebuilder Teaches Chattanooga’s Youth How to Create Home Fire Escape Plan

Tennessee Public Fire Information Officer, in partnership with Johnny Walker Jr. Construction and PEARL Protected to teach students the importance of having a fire escape. Many of Chattanooga’s children will join other students nationwide as they take part in the Great American Fire Drill. Several Girl Scouts from the Awahilia area of the Moccasin Bend Girl Scout Council will attend a fire safety seminar led by Fire Prevention Education Officer of the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office, Jeff Huddleston.

Escape Dominates Fire Safety Education during Fire Prevention Week

Most Americans believe they have at least 10 minutes to get out of their homes during a fire. This is a deadly mistake. Unfortunately, a person only has three minutes or less to escape to safety before smoke or flames can become fatal (Source: National Fire Protection Association). To emphasize the importance of residential fire safety, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will highlight the theme, “Practice Your Escape Plan,” during its annual observance of Fire Prevention Week (October 7-13, 2007).

Mayfield Homes joins a list of progressive metro Atlanta builders who currently offer this lifesaving device in their homes. Homeowners in The Legends at Parkview community in Lilburn, Georgia, will feature PEARL units in two different bedrooms as a standard feature. Texas Real Estate Disclosure Act requires working smoke alarms and full fire safety disclosure in real estate transactions. Homeowners and homebuilders in the State of Texas will have to meet stricter fire safety codes. The Texas state legislature recently passed legislation requiring homeowners and homebuilders to disclose the presence of a working smoke alarm in all new one- and two-family homes in order to complete real estate transactions.
